Frances Patella’s photo based mixed media work has been exhibited in numerous public and private galleries and has won awards, including mid-career grants from the Ontario and Toronto Arts Council. She is active in the Toronto arts community as a Director of the Board of Propeller Center for The Visual Arts and the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition as Chair of Jury and Judges. Frances has taught visual arts and analog photography in the Toronto District School Board, and has conducted workshops for the Photo Educators Forum and the National Gallery of Photography. She has also received numerous Artists in Education grants through the Ontario Arts Council. Frances holds a BFA from York University and a B.ED. from the University of Toronto.  She also studied visual arts at the University of Western Ontario and in Florence Italy.

 

 

Frances introduces a temporal aspect to the representation of the landscape, using photo mosaics of the controlled burns of the Southern Ontario Oak Savannahs, primarily in High Park.
